1. Ensure your wedding gown is protected
from exposure to air and light by wrapping
it in a clean cotton sheet or freshly laundered
unbleached muslin. Boxing your gown is not
recommended.
2. A gown stored in a plastic bag for any
length of time can yellow, due to the fumes
that are emitted from plastic. A metal zipper
can accelerate the damaging chemical reaction
of gases trapped inside the bag.
3. Never store your gown in areas in your
home that are subject to extreme heat or
humidity; such as the attic or basement.
4. Vacuum-packaging can trap moisture and
emit fumes that yellow the gown because of
the plastic in which the gown is sealed.
5. Typical cleaners lack the experience
and facilities to properly care for delicate
garments, therefore they must send the gowns
off site, increasing the cost to the consumer.
6.
Ensure that shoulder pads, bust pads and
underarm shields are removed before storage.
They are made of materials that can bond
to the fabric of your gown and destroy
the fibres. I have come by this occupation through owning
a resale / consignment shop since March,
1993, called "Play it Again Val." In
July 2005 I sold the business.
Since 1995 I have been cleaning
gowns for resale. At first I did have a contract
with a dry cleaning company but through sheer
frustration with them I started cleaning
the gowns myself and found I could do a better
job.
If you would prefer a box for
your Wedding Gown I will have them available
for
$65.00.
I also have available cotton
gown bags for $35.00.
